What is the Family Resource Centre Canberra (YWAM)?

The FRCC is the Canberra branch of Youth With A Mission’s University of the Nations International Family Resource Centre (IDF). It is also a division of the wider YWAM family ministry program.

The Family Resource Centre (IDF) is an international interdisciplinary resource and development network in the area of family and marriage. The International Director of FRC is Larry Ballard from Wisconsin.

The FRCC provides continuing education opportunities for professionals and lay people through the use of books and other resources, seminars, workshops and short-term courses. These programmes are designed to service those who are currently working within various family disciplines.

FRCC is actively involved in promoting the role of individuals and families in family ministry as part of discipling the nations and reaching the poor and needy peoples of the world. This is done through:

  • Training in family ministry and family counselling (YWAM Family Ministry Schools and seminars).
  • Training in cross-cultural issues.
  • Short–term missions and field assignments in third world countries (especially Eastern Europe, Africa and China).

A Biblical Mandate

In Him we have redemption through His blood (Ephesians 1:7).

Our sufficiency is from God, who has made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life   (2 Corinthians .3:5,6)

God who has brought us back to himself through what Christ did. And God has given us the task of reconciling people to him. For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. This is the wonderful message he has given us to tell others. We are Christ’s ambassadors (2 Corinthians 5:18-20 NLT).

Seminars

Seminars are offered that address the various counselling, legal, ethical, religious, and political-legislative issues, as they relate to family. These seminars are conducted in cooperation with local churches, social service agencies, educational institutions and family agencies. FRCC is particularly involved in conducting training programs and seminars in the poorest and neediest countries of the world.

Seminars offered also include:

  • Clergy training in how to set up effective family ministry programs in local congregations.
  • Family counselling training programs.
  • How to minister to needy families in second and third world countries.

Seminars and workshops are also offered to individuals, couples and families for the purpose of training them in family life skills. Examples of such seminars are:

  • Premarital preparation.
  • Family values.
  • Marriage.
  • Parenting.
  • Healthy sexuality.
  • Divorce recovery.
  • Family counselling.

  • Leadership.

Resources

The Centre is also a resource and communication catalyst by:

  • Maintaining a resource library – DVDs, videos, articles, papers and seminar packages that can be made available to families, churches, professionals, and service agencies.
  • Books on family, marriage, parenting, sexuality and family counselling in English, Korean, Russian and Chinese languages.
  • Providing a reference list of individuals and agencies that offer family and marriage services.
  • Providing communication through the writing of articles, books, pamphlets, etc.
  • Serving as a networking and communication centre for various churches, mission agencies, and family agencies.

The Centre is also involved in research in order to be aware of trends in the area of family and social development.
